On September 21, the theme salon “Chinese and foreign youth travel thousands of miles: from Chang’an to the world” was held in Xi’an. Experts and scholars from China, Nepal, Malaysia, India, Uzbekistan, and other countries and regions, poets and writers, and representatives of students and teachers from Xi’an Foreign Studies University gathered to celebrate the Silk Road friendship and mutual learning between civilizations.

At the opening ceremony, Liu Zhentao, Party Secretary of Xi’an International Studies University, introduced the historical status and cultural value of Chang’an as the starting point of the ancient Silk Road, and introduced the practice of Xi’an in the protection of traditional culture and the construction of the Silk Road civilization in the new era. Gao Jinxiao, Deputy Director of the Foreign Affairs Office of Shaanxi Provincial People’s Government, delivered a speech, encouraging young people to shoulder the mission of cultural exchanges and promoting mutual learning among civilizations with an open and inclusive attitude. On the site, Liu Zhentao signed a cooperation agreement between the school and Li Shuowu, president of Contemporary World Press, on behalf of the school, and held the launch ceremony for the new book “Chinese Poetry in America.”

During the keynote speech, Huang Dayuan, director of the Center for Central Asia and the Rim of the Caspian Sea Research Center at Xi’an Foreign Studies University, titled “The mutual learning between civilizations of the Silk Road from the network of the ‘Chang’an-Tiangshan corridor’,” dissecting the dynamic mechanism of the intersection of multiple civilizations along the Silk Road in the historical and geographical dimension. Yuan Xiaojun, the general manager of Xi’an Free Trade Port Construction and Operations Co., explored from a practical perspective the path of coordinated development of facilities connectivity, unimpeded trade, and people-to-people exchanges in the new era.

During the youth sharing session, Su Zihan, Jin Xiaoyan, Wang Qichao, and Mina, an international student from Xi’an Foreign Studies University, shared their experiences in participating in cultural preservation and international exchange. Mina combines the cultural memory of the country’s Silk Road sites to express the aspirations of a new generation of youth for peace and cooperation.
The event was divided into two sessions, focusing on “From Chang’an to the Belt and Road Initiative: Changes and changes in Sino-foreign cultural exchanges,” focusing on media cooperation and policy coordination, and cross-cultural media talent training. The main venue also hosted a book-sharing session featuring the Chinese Poetry Dictionary in the United States. The guest, Deng Kangyan, and the author, Tang Cheng, respectively shared the themes of “Chinese crossing the ocean, poetry returning to Qinling” and “returning to the homeland of poetry” to discuss the thoughts on literary cross-cultural communication. Students actively interacted.

Through multi-level and multi-form exchanges, this salon enhances the recognition of the Silk Road spirit among Chinese and foreign youth, broadens the international cooperation network, and injects new vitality into mutual learning among civilizations and building a community with a shared future for mankind.
